History of the Ovtcharka

*Caucasian Ovtcharka (The earliest domesticated dog!)*
The skulls of 2 stone age dogs believed to be the earliest known canines on record have been found by Russian scientists. The duo lived approximately 14.000 years ago. Mikhail Sablin (scientist) of the zoological institute Russia told Discovery News "We believe that the remains found look like present day Caucasian Mountain dogs". So further suggesting that they are one of the world oldest breeds of dog. Russian experts contend that the breed naturally evolved approximately 2000 years ago. These dogs accompanied nomadic people during their trek across the continent, some of these groups settled in the remotest mountain areas. The dogs bred for centuries in a half wild state, geographically isolated from other breeds. Hard natural selection has resulted in the Caucasian Ovtcharka that we know today. The Soviet Government utilised the Caucasian for guarding throughout the former Soviet Union. In America the Caucasian is earning a reputation as a trustworthy service dog/companion/best friend. We here at A1CaucasianUK believe that through natural selection the Caucasian Ovtcharka is one the few naturally large, healthy and unspoilt dogs to be introduced to the UK.
